WEST PALM BEACH, FL–  The World Health Organization and the United Nations first declared December 1st as World AIDS Day in 1988.  Since then much has been done to create awareness, save lives and slow the spread of the disease. This year’s theme is “Getting to zero: zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths”.  Minority AIDS Initiative Network, Inc. (M.A.I.N.) has joined forces with Harley Davidson, Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club South Florida, Born Free Riders of Boynton Beach, 561 Riders of the Palm Beach, and Harley Riders of the Palm Beaches Motorcycle Club among others to raise awareness and stop the further spread of HIV/AIDS specifically in minority communities including African American, Caribbean and Latino populated areas of Palm Beach County.

Elizabeth Robinson, Executive Director of M.A.I.N. states, “Getting to Zero involves getting more community members involved. The Minority AIDS Initiative Network, Inc. involves hundreds of community members coming together for one thing and one thing only, that is to put a voice to HIV/AIDS.  We provide FREE confidential HIV/AIDS counseling, testing and referral services, while facilitating HIV education training, street outreach and support groups.  Join M.A.I.N. and our community partners in recognition of World AIDS Day 2013 at “The MAIN Event” where our mission is “Getting to Zero”!

M.A.I.N. will host five events designed to reach and engage entire families, people of all ages and residents of all cultural backgrounds titled “The M.A.I.N. Event”. The awareness events will kick-off Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 6:00PM with The M.A.I.N. Event‘s Getting to Zero AIDS Awareness Reception hosted by Harley Davidson of Palm Beach. “Harley-Davidson® of Palm Beach is proud to be part of this worthy cause.  Palm Beach County and South Florida in general is a melting pot of brothers and sisters from all over the world. Continually raising awareness of HIV and Aids related issues benefits all who get involved in this initiative. We invite all of you to participate and attend this weekend’s events “, says Kathleen Simone, Event Coordinator for Harley-Davidson® of Palm Beach.

On Friday, December 6, M.A.I.N. will host the 3rd annual “Show you Care” Midnight Walk for AIDS at the MLK Memorial, Downtown West Palm Beach followed by the Clematis Club Stroll where condoms and candy will be distributed.  The events will wrap up on Saturday, December 7th with the Community Health Fair at Cunningham Park in Riviera Beach and The Motorcycle Ride for Life from Delray Beach to Riviera Beach.  In addition, Viking Yachts will host a fundraiser, The White Haute Party with a Purpose featuring FREE HIV/AIDS screening, heavy hors d’ouerves, live entertainment, door prizes, and dancing.
