You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with media, community, employee, and public interest groups by creating press releases and other media communications, responding to requests for information, managing press conferences, and coaching representatives in effective communication.  

Responsibilities:

  • Responding to requests for information from the media including designating a spokesperson or other information source.
  • Managing press conferences including promotion and logistics.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with consumer, community, employee, and public interest groups.
  • Writing press releases and other media communications to promote events, initiatives, and programs.
  • Pitching members of the media to achieve meaningful earned media coverage.
  • Maintaining accurate local and regional media lists and fostering relationships with members of the media including bloggers and influencers.
  • Creating social media content and posting to multiple platforms.
  • Thinking creatively to secure coverage and buzz with a variety of media outlets.
  • Planning or directing the development of programs to maintain favorable public and stakeholder views of the organization’s agenda and accomplishments.
  • Coaching organization representatives in effective communication with the public and employees.
  • Building public relations strategies that influence public opinion and promote products, ideas, and services as per the organization’s objectives, promotional policies, and needs.
  • Preparing and editing internal and external publications such as employee newsletters and stakeholder reports.
  • Developing content for the organization’s website.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to identify trends and group interests as well as providing expertise and feedback.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years working in the public relations and/or communications field.
  • Experience managing press conferences and other media events.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge of marketing and communications.
  • Ability to think strategically as well as manage day-to-day tasks.
  • Focus on achieving measurable results and meet objectives.
  • Deadline-oriented with strong follow-up and reporting skills.
  • Project management and budgeting skills.
  • Responds well under pressure and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Quick and enthusiastic learner.
